"Philipponnat has established itself today as one of the most dynamic and high-quality houses of Champagne. Under the direction of Charles Philipponnat, the wines have gained in precision and brilliance, offering a deep vinosity that never sacrifices freshness.
This is the epitome of elegant, wine-inspired style."
William Kelley, The Wine Advocate, 2024
The modern era of the house began in 1910 with Auguste and Pierre Philipponnat. Since then, the family has produced its wines exclusively from the first-press juice of the finest grapes, primarily from Premier and Premier-classified plots. Grand Cru, by ensuring that the grapes are harvested at perfect ripeness. A portion of the wines is vinified or aged in oak barrels, which adds further complexity. The wines then age in the bottle on their lees for three to eleven years. True to a distinctive style that resists trends, the house produces champagnes that are first and foremost wines: flavorful, powerful, and perfectly balanced.
Since taking office in 1999, Charles has brought Philipponnat back to its last golden age (1913-1962)Under the guidance of Louis Boland, then cellar master, the wines of Boland embodied the essence of Pinot Noir from the vineyards of the Montagne de Reims. Charles' champagnes fully exploit these exceptional terroirs, giving rise to wines that express all the nobility of Pinot Noir.
To add even more depth and complexity, Charles has gradually increased the proportion of wines aged in neutral oak. To fully reveal their character, the non-vintage wines age for approximately 3 years on lees, while the vintage wines spend 5 to 10 years on their lees.
Driven by a strong vision, great technical mastery, constant perfectionism and pride in five centuries of tradition, Charles has crafted a range of champagnes among the most remarkable in terms of quality and character.

A true benchmark for lovers of structured wines, Maison Philipponnat produces cuvées of brilliant vinosity, faithful to the nobility of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. Between extended aging, controlled oak, and absolute respect for freshness, each bottle embodies artisanal excellence and the assertive character of great gastronomic champagnes.
